About
The Artist:
IN MY PAINTING, I TRY TO CAPTURE TRANSITIONAL MOMENTS IN
TIME, IN BOTH POSED AND IMPROMPTU PORTRAITS,
scenes from everyday life and
reflective images within urban landscapes. My approach is a style of realism,
heavily influenced
by the themes and colors of impressionism, and by such
influential artists as Mary Cassatt and Norman Rockwell, favorite subject
inspirations.
My goal as an artist is to define and maintain an
aesthetic viewpoint and through the process of honing my technical skills within
my choice of medium, to achieve excellence of expression. In my work, I draw on
my empathy and life experience to communicate with my viewers. While I respect the jagged cutting edge
and controversy of Contemporary art and often find it to be exciting, my purpose
is different and somewhat softer: to provide a series of images, which evoke
shared experiences and memories. I believe that most
people want to be inspired,
rather than shocked. Basically, unlike a good martini, they want to be stirred,
but not shaken.
Although I currently paint in oils, I have also worked in
pastels, oil pastels, charcoal, pen and ink and
pencil.
